20. Is UI taxable?

Yes. However, under the recent federal economic stimulus bill, the first $2,400 of UI benefits will not be subject to federal income taxes for 2009. There is no similar state income tax break. You can choose to have taxes withheld from your UI benefits. If you do not withhold, you will be responsible for income taxes owed at tax time.
