2007 - 9th Annual Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer

Each year the Massachusetts AFL-CIO holds its signature charity event, the Walk to Cure Cancer, at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worchester. This year the registration for the event will begin at 10 AM and the walk will begin at 12 noon on September 23, 2007. This year will mark the 9th annual Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer, which raises money for cancer research at UMASS Memorial’s Massachusetts AFL-CIO Cancer Research Center.

Every year millions of people in Massachusetts and around the country receive the terrible news that either they or a loved one has cancer. This is devastating news, but because of the work being done in cancer research centers across the country, cancer survival rates are on the rise and will continue to rise until the disease is eradicated. The money raised at the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer goes directly to cancer research done at our namesake center at the University of Massachusetts. Our goal for this year is to raise even more money than the past years to continue to fight this terrible disease.

Nine years ago, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO made the Walk to Cure Cancer the signature charity event of organized labor in the Commonwealth, pledging to raise $5 million towards the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Cancer Research Center. Since then our efforts have helped raise $4.2 million for cancer research. With all of your help, and this year’s celebrity appearance of Chubby Checker, we believe the event will be even bigger than ever.

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO’s purpose is to improve the quality of life and take care of Massachusetts families. No event achieves the goal of improving lives more than the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer. Saving or improving the lives of cancer patients and their families is the goal of the Walk as we hope to end the pain and suffering of patients and their families once and for all. Please join with us this year in our mission to “Change Lives and Save Lives.”

If you wish to get involved in this amazing event, you can help by walking, forming a team, creating a fundraising webpage at www.firstgiving.com/wtcc, securing matching gifts, and volunteering at the event.
