Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Committee Resolution
In Support of Establishing a Futures Committee in all Massachusetts AFL-CIO Unions
WHEREAS, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Program has been successful in educating young union members about the Labor Movement, their locals and Central Labor Councils; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Program is to develop future labor leaders and grow the ranks of active members, thereby ensuring the continued stewardship, growth and improvement of the Labor Movement; and
WHEREAS, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Committee plays an important role in recruiting members, determining the direction, and planning events for the Futures Program; and
WHEREAS, involvement in the Labor Movement should begin with being involved with one’s own local union; and
WHEREAS, each local union has an interest in developing future leaders to ensure the best possible representation of their members in the years to come; and
WHERAS, local unions have established member committees for health and safety, organizing, political action and others; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the passage of this resolution signifies the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Committee’s request that all local unions affiliated with the Massachusetts AFL-CIO establish a Futures Committee to give a voice to young members and to work with the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Committee.
