Get to Know Barack Obama: A New Direction

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS AFL-CIO

Get to Know Barack Obama: A New Direction

Senator Obama and Senator Biden Will Put Working Families First

In Barack Obama's Own Words: "Politics didn't lead me to working folks; working folks led me to politics."

Senator Obama Will Put Workers' Rights Before Corporate Interests. He is a Sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act and Will Sign It Into Law. President Bush and Senator John McCain are both against the Employee Free Choice Act. Senator Obama is a co-sponsor of the Act which will restore the right to organize free of fear or intimidation. Click here to learn more about why we need the Employee Free Choice Act.

Senator Obama Will End the Tax Cuts for the Wealthy Promoted by President Bush and Senator McCain. Senator John McCain wants to keep Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of the country. President Bush and Senator McCain have supported giving tax cuts to companies that ship our jobs overseas. Senator Obama will end tax breaks for those companies and will give a middle-class tax cut to 95% of working Americans.

Senator Obama Will Implement an Affordable Health Care Plan for Working Families. President Bush, supported by Senator McCain, has created a health care disaster during his term. Costs have skyrocketed and the number of employers offering health care has plummeted. Senator McCain has no plan to fix it and instead has promised to tax your health care benefits. Senator Obama has a plan to make health care affordable. No American will be turned away from health care because of illness or pre-existing conditions. Premiums will be affordable. And Americans will still be able to choose their own doctor.

Senator Obama Understands the Importance of Protecting Social Security Benefits and Won't Gamble With Our Retirement. President Bush tried to privatize Social Security and Senator McCain promises to do the same. Senator Obama will protect Social Security by implementing important reforms and expansions without putting the retirement security of millions at risk.

It is clear why the Massachusetts AFL-CIO has endorsed Barack Obama as the candidate for Working Families.

Vote on November 4th, 2008 for a U.S. President Who Shares Workers' Priorities.
