Barack Obama was a community organizer in a Chicago area hurt by the closing of steel mills, where he learned that unions stand up for their members, all workers, and our communities. He worked side by side with unions to help workers get through tough times like these.

As Illinois State Senator, he championed access to health care and early childhood education.

He has earned a 98% lifetime rating as U.S. Senator from the AFL-CIO.

Unlike his opponent, Senator McCain, he left the campaign trail to vote in favor of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to ensure that women workers are compensated equally with their male counterparts for doing the same work.

Senator Obama voted to support overtime pay, equal pay, prevailing wages and family and medical leave.

The vast majority of tax cuts in Senator Barack Obama's plans will go to middle-class American families.
