Let the market decide on casinos

Proponents say that the only study that really counts is the will of the people, which clearly favors casino gaming in the state and the city of New Bedford. Private investors should make the real determination by putting up investment capital, for ultimately the government role is service and regulation, and business must be left to decide the economics of a project.

After more than five hours of historic debate, the House of Representatives passed the most important labor law reform legislation in 70 years.

By a margin of 241 to 185, the House passed H.R. 800, which would level the playing field when workers seek to form a union and bargain. Thirteen Republicans joined 228 Democrats in voting for the bill. Two Democrats and 183 Republicans voted against the bill.
