Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Building Momentum: Lucky #7 Events Announced

The first year of the Futures Program is off to a strong start and the program continues to grow in size and momentum. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO organized a social gathering for its Futures delegates on Thursday, April 17. This event was a great success, with more than 25 delegates from different unions and sectors coming together to socialize and network. The Futures Program was created to cultivate more involvement in the Labor Movement among young people, and has so far seen tremendous interest among the delegates.

There are three upcoming events taking place from May 7th to June 7th, which you and your younger union members are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday May 7th at 6:00 p.m. - The first Democratic State Committee Labor Outreach meeting of 2008 will be held at the IBEW Local 103 union hall located at 256 Freeport Street in Dorchester. Refreshments will be provided. At this meeting participants will have an opportunity to help set the direction, priorities, and structure of the Labor Outreach Committee. You do not have to be an elected member of the Democratic State Committee to attend. All union members who are Democrats or are interested in labor's role at the DSC are welcome.

Saturday May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Labor to Labor Walk in support of healthcare reform. Join the Massachusetts and New Hampshire AFL-CIO and go door to door talking to fellow union members about the importance of healthcare in the 2008 Presidential election. More details will be forthcoming about possible travel arrangements.

Saturday June 7th at 9:00 a.m. - Join the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Senator John Kerry, and former Governor of NH and current U.S. Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen at our Annual Breakfast at the Massachusetts Democratic State Convention, held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. There will also be volunteer opportunities throughout the day at the convention.

Please make every effort to attend these events and send younger members as Futures delegates. For questions or details, please contact Political Director Bob Bower (bbower@massaflcio.org) or Political and Legislative Coordinator Chrissy Long (clong@massaflcio.org) or call (781) 324-8230.
