Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Committee Chooses BTU Member Allison Doherty-LaCasse as their 2009 Representative

For the second straight year, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will have the voice of a young union activist on its Executive Council. Allison Doherty-LaCasse, a teacher and building representative at the Urban Science Academy in West Roxbury, and a member of the Boston Teachers Union Executive Board, was chosen as the next Futures representative at the 2nd Annual Massachusetts AFL-CIO Futures Convention on Saturday, January 31st. Along with representing young workers and union activists on the Mass. AFL-CIO Executive Council, Allison will also help to further develop the goals and agenda of the Futures Program.

A special education, music and drama teacher at the Urban Science Academy, Allison ran uncontested for the elected seat and will be replacing a fellow teacher, Jeremy McKeen of AFT Local 1037, who served as the Futures representative in 2008. Allison has been involved with the Futures Program since its inception, serving on the steering committee for both the 1st and 2nd annual Futures Conventions. She has also worked to get young members involved in her own local, serving on the new member recruitment committee of the BTU.

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO congratulates Allison on her new role, and looks forward to working with her to continue building the Futures Program in its second year.
