Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution Praising Richard Trumka, Liz Shuler and Arlene Holt-Baker on Election to Executive Offices

 

Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution Praising Richard Trumka, Liz Shuler and Arlene Holt-Baker on their Recent Election to the Executive Offices of the AFL-CIO
 
WHEREAS, the Labor Movement now more than ever needs strong national leadership to direct its message and purpose; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Trumka, Liz Shuler and Arlene Holt-Baker were elected as the President, Secretary-Treasurer and Executive Vice-President, respectively, at the AFL-CIO Convention on Wedneday, September 16, 2009; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Trumka has loyally served for the last fourteen years as the Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, as the President of the United Mine Workers Union from 1982 - 1985; and
 
WHEREAS, Liz Shuler has served as Executive Assistant to IBEW President Edwin Hill since 2004 and has served with the IBEW in important capacities since 1993; and
 
WHEREAS, Arlene Holt-Baker has served in the position of Executive Vice-President of the AFL-CIO as a key part of the administration of President John Sweeney since 2007 and has dedicated decades of service to the Labor Movement through the AFL-CIO and AFSCME; therefore be it
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO commends President Richard Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler, and Executive Vice President Arlene Holt-Baker on their election to the executive offices of the AFL-CIO; and be it further
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO celebrates the historic diversity represented by these impressive individuals and commends the AFL-CIO for electing leadership as diverse and talented as the workers they represent; and be it further
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is eager to work with these distinguished individuals in the coming years, helping to advance the agenda of working people throughout America, strengthen and unify the Labor Movement, and reestablish the principles of equality, fairness, and justice that this country was founded upon; and be it finally
 
RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution and other information to all relevant parties to demonstrate its admiration and respect for President Richard Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler, and Executive Vice President Arlene Holt-Baker and express its pride in their election to their new positions of leadership in the AFL-CIO.
