Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution in Recognition of the Achievements of Retiring AFL-CIO President John Sweeney
 
WHEREAS, John Sweeney led the AFL-CIO as our President for the last fourteen years with honor and distinction; and
 
WHEREAS, President Sweeney has been instrumental in realizing victories for the Labor Movement which have included the raising of the minimum wage, the strengthening of safety standards, electing a pro-worker President and majority in Congress, and the expansion of training and education programs; and
 
WHEREAS, President Sweeney has championed labor political action programs which have produced significant gains in the number of pro-worker elected officials at all levels of government during the past fourteen years; and
 
WHEREAS, President Sweeney’s leadership on legislative issues has moved us closer than ever to success on issues such as universal healthcare, the Employee Free Choice Act, and equality and diversity in the workforce; and
 
WHEREAS, President Sweeney has made a tremendous effort to guide and inspire future generations of labor leaders through his fierce advocacy on working family issues; therefore be it
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO commends John Sweeney on his leadership over the last fourteen years and thanks him for his selfless service to the cause of the Labor Movement; and be it further
 
RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution and other information to all relevant parties to express its admiration and respect for John Sweeney as a partner in the cause of working people, and a hero to the Labor Movement for the incredible changes and accomplishments he has orchestrated as its leader.
