Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution in Recognition of United States Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis
 
WHEREAS, U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis represents a significant milestone as the first Hispanic head of the U.S. Department of Labor; and
 
WHEREAS, The background and upbringing of Secretary Solis represents the struggles of many working class Americans and her accomplishments demonstrate how education and dedication can result in significant achievements; and
 
WHEREAS, Secretary Solis is a staunch advocate for workers’ rights, and is a longtime supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act, the development of green jobs, workforce development programs, and other issues vital to the survival of working families; and
 
WHEREAS, under her new guidance, the Department of Labor has expanded its outreach with an addition of 770 new investigators to crack down on wage, hour, and child-labor violations, as well as expanding its ability to monitor contractors directing projects with stimulus funding; and
 
WHEREAS, Secretary Solis, through respect and good will, has forged a strong relationship with the Labor Movement, and seeks to help advance the agenda of working families; therefore be it
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO pledges its full support to Secretary Solis and expresses full confidence in her leadership skills and commitment to American workers and their families; and be it further
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is eager to work with Secretary Solis in the coming years in pursuit of our common goals and shared values, and in helping improve the lives of working families and communities across the United States; and be it finally
 
RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution and other information to all relevant parties to demonstrate its ardent support for Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and her efforts in advancing the cause of working people.
