Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution in Support of the Boston Museum on the Rose Kennedy Greenway
 
WHEREAS, the Rose Kennedy Greenway has greatly expanded the amount of green space and park land in downtown Boston; and
 
WHEREAS, the Rose Kennedy Greenway functions as a gathering point for tourists and families to reflect on the legacy of the Kennedy family, as well as to enjoy the scenic views of the waterfront and downtown Boston; and
 
WHEREAS, the proposed Boston Museum would provide a much needed venue with which to celebrate Boston’s heritage and its important history and role in the founding of the United States; and
 
WHEREAS, the proposed Boston Museum would contain a significant component dedicated to Boston’s storied history of organized labor; and
 
WHEREAS, the construction of the proposed Boston Museum on the Greenway would create jobs for our brothers and sisters in the building trades; and
 
WHEREAS, there is a present need for a museum focused on the history of Boston and its surrounding areas as a pioneering place in this nation’s history and the proposed Boston Museum would fill this need while bringing added tourism and interest into the city’s downtown area; therefore be it
 
RESOLVED that with an expected grand opening to take place in 2013, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO fully supports the endeavors of the Boston Museum to bring the region’s cultural heritage and important events to life; and be it further
 
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO would not endorse any plans for the facility of the Boston Museum that did not allow the future workers on the site to collectively bargain for fair wages and benefits; and be it finally
 
RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this Resolution to all relevant sources in order to demonstrate its ardent support of the creation of the Boston Museum on the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway in Boston.
