Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution in Support of Buying UAW Made Vehicles

 

WHEREAS, the United States auto industry is one of the most important, long lasting and historically rich manufacturing sectors in this country; and

 

WHEREAS, the UAW brought hundreds of thousands of working class people into the middle class by creating good paying union jobs with benefits in the auto industry – lifting entire communities out of poverty; and

 

WHEREAS, American made cars are some of the finest automobiles in the world stretching back hundreds of years to their invention; and

 

WHEREAS, the auto industry in the United States has been hard hit by the economic downturn resulting in the loss of thousands of good paying jobs with benefits leaving families and entire communities concerned for their economic future; and

 

WHEREAS, union jobs provide working people with an opportunity to reach the middle class guaranteeing them a voice and rights in the workplace; and

 

WHEREAS, buying an American made car supports good union jobs that allow communities to thrive and the economy to grow; and

 

WHEREAS, buying an American-made car not only puts a new car in your driveway, but it stimulates the economy from the automaker down through the parts suppliers, factory workers, and neighborhood dealerships; therefore be it

 

RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and its affiliates and their members commit to purchasing UAW made cars with Vehicle Identification Numbers beginning with a 1, 2, 4 or 5 for themselves, their families, their friends and their colleagues; and be it further

 

RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO use available resources to educate their affiliates’ members about the importance of buying UAW made cars to support good paying union jobs; and be it finally

 

RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution to all relevant parties in order to demonstrate its strong support for buying UAW made vehicles.
