Massachusetts AFL-CIO Resolution in Support of a Second Round of Federal Economic Stimulus
WHEREAS, over 14 million Americans continue to be out of work, with more than 200,000 jobs lost in the month of August alone; and
WHEREAS, despite the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act making strides towards fixing the nation’s broken infrastructure and anemic job market, the economic devastation incurred by the Bush-Cheney Administration requires continued economic stimulus to continue to repair the damage; and
WHEREAS, millions of individuals who are out of work have subsequently been dropped from their health insurance plans; and
WHEREAS, an essential part of fixing the broken economy is bringing strength, sustainability and security back to the middle class; and
WHEREAS, President Obama sees unions and union membership as part of the solution to the economic crisis; therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO urges Congress and the Obama Administration to pass a second round of economic stimulus expressly dedicated to job creation through infrastructure and energy investment, the improvement of safety net programs and aid to state and local governments; and be it further
RESOLVED that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO urges Congress and the Obama Administration to require that a second installment of recovery funds contain “Buy American” provisions that ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars create jobs for U.S. workers; and be it finally
RESOLVED that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this Resolution to all relevant sources in order to demonstrate its ardent support a second round of economic stimulus funds.
