Massachusetts Congressional Delegation ranks the highest in the country in Labor Voting Records

The Massachusetts Congressional Delegation’s Labor Voting Records rank among the highest in the country, Senators Obama and Biden both have 100% Labor Voting Records for 2007, while John McCain’s Labor Record peaked at Zero yet another year.

The nine U.S. Congressmen, one U.S. Congresswoman and two U.S. Senators from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have an average career Labor Voting Record of over 93%.  Thankfully, working families across the country have two Democratic Presidential candidates with perfect Labor Voting Records for 2007. Meanwhile, John McCain did not vote in favor of working families once in 2007, and 2008 is looking just as bad. The Massachusetts Delegation has fought to put the economy back on track and to create new family-sustaining jobs across Massachusetts and the country throughout their careers.  Each has been a powerful ally for working families across the nation, and the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is confident that they will continue advocating and standing up for union members and their families, and all workers, every time they are re-elected.

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO formally endorsed Senator John Kerry for re-election at its February Executive Council Meeting in February 2008.  “I am honored today to earn the endorsement of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. Working families are the backbone of Massachusetts’ economy and for more than 24 years I have fought to make sure their voices are heard in Washington ,” said Senator Kerry.

Freshman Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, whose 2007 campaign organized labor helped tremendously, currently has a 100% Record.  Congresswoman Tsongas, along with every other member of the Massachusetts Delegation have called the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and labor leaders from across the state countless times before taking important votes. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is proud of the open door policy its Delegation has with labor.

Senator Kennedy, Senator Kerry, Congressman Olver, Congressman Neal, Congressman McGovern, Congressman Frank, Congresswoman Tsongas, Congressman Tierney, Congressman Markey, Congressman Capuano, Congressman Lynch and Congressman Delahunt have all voted for things that are of the utmost importance to union members and working families, including: the Employee Free Choice Act, protecting Davis-Bacon laws and prevailing wages for construction workers, for SCHIP that would have provided health coverage for over 6 million children, to increase the Minimum Wage, for the College Student Relief Act, which reduces the interest rates on federal student loans, as well as many other votes that took a stand for the Labor Movement and the working class people of the Commonwealth and nation.

The Massachusetts AFL-CIO remains proud of its U.S. Senators, Congressmen and Congresswoman, and the strong relationships it has with each, and looks forward to working with them in the future.
