MassCOSH seeking Part-Time Health and Safety Educator and Outreach Coordinator
JOB DESCRIPTION Part-time Health and Safety Educator and Outreach Coordinator
25 hours per week
The Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health (MassCOSH) is a nonprofit organization that educates and mobilizes workers, unions, and community activists to advocate for and promote a healthy and safe workplace. MassCOSH is an exciting and growing organization with a diverse, committed staff that work as a team.
Description:
The Health and Safety Educator will provide health and safety training to workers in eastern Massachusetts, working in partnership with the New England Consortium. S/he will also conduct outreach to unions, offering training and other assistance, strengthening MassCOSH’s relationships and promoting membership.
Duties:
· Organize and conduct educational sessions that introduce workers to resources and rights they can use to identify, prevent and address health and safety concerns. In particular, work in collaboration with the New England Consortium to offer OSHA 10, confined space, HAZWOPER and other courses.
· Conduct outreach to unions, workers, and community organizations and educate them about MassCOSH’s training and technical assistance resources and the benefits of membership.
· Participate in agency-wide program efforts that engage the community in health and safety such as Workers Memorial Day and MassCOSH Annual Event.
Qualifications:
Ø Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety and health issues
Ø Authorization as an OSHA 10 outreach trainer (construction or general industry) or certification in other occupational safety areas, preferred
Ø Experience providing training to workers and adult learners, using popular education/interactive approaches
Ø Experience in and strong commitment to workers rights and unions
Ø Strong facilitation skills.
Ø Strong writing skills.
Ø Bi-lingual Spanish or Portuguese a plus.
Salary: $26,750/year (based on 25 hrs/wk, pro-rated for $42,800 full time annual salary) plus 100% individual health and individual dental, 2% pension; 3 weeks vacation. Possibility of expansion if additional funding for this project becomes available.
