Show Your Support for Expanded Gaming That Will Create Jobs and Revenue in the Commonwealth on Thursday Oct. 29
Thursday October 29th is going to be a monumental day as there will be a public legislative hearing at the State House where the Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies will be accepting testimonies on gaming in the Commonwealth. Union members are encouraged to attend to show your support for "An Act Establishing and Regulating Resort-Style Entertainment in the Commonwealth." The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM in the Gardner Auditorium. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO's destination resort casino legislation (HB4068) is designed to create tens of thousands of new jobs throughout the Commonwealth and hundreds of millions of dollars in new revenue for the Commonwealth. It is crucial that we have a large amount of supporters at this hearing on Thursday. This Act authorizes creation of three resort-style entertinament complexes, each requiring $1 billion in capital investment and $225 million in licensing fees, and together generating annual state revenues of hundreds of millions of dollars. This will stimulate thousands of jobs in both construction and day-to-day opreation. The sooner this Act is passed the sooner jobs will emerge and the sooner unemployment-rate will decrease. This bill will generate huge sums of money for the state that can be used to fund other important projects and to continue funding critical services. It is very important that this bill is voted out of the Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies quickly and positively.
