Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer
11th Annual Walk to Cure Cancer is coming up September 13,2009.
On September 13,2009 the 11th annual Walk to Cure Cancer will be taking place at 55 Lake Ave. North in Worcester Massachusetts. This event, which was created by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO 11 years ago has raised 6 million dollars for cancer research. The 4th floor of the Lazare medical building at the University of Massachusetts Medical School is named the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Cancer Research Center for these efforts in the fight against cancer. This year we hope to raise one million dollars for the first time in the Walk's history and with your help we can accomplish this goal.
This year's Walk to Cure Cancer will be kicking off from the UMass Medical School Campus at 55 Lake Ave. North in Worcester. The Walk will begin at 12 noon with registration lasting from 10am until 12pm when the walk begins. Past walk's have drawn as many as 15,000 walkers all with a common goal of helping to eradicate cancer through funding for research. This is an important cause that needs all the support it can get through contributions from walkers who have gotten sponsors, money donated directly to the walk, or volunteer's to help the day of the walk. In order to volunteer or find a pledge sheet to raise money and walk visit the official Walk to Cure Cancer website at the bottom of this page. You can donate directly simply by clicking here.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO co-founded this event with Dottie Manning, a close friend of President Robert Haynes, who lost her husband and her son to cancer. Click here to read Dottie’s letter to President Haynes thanking him for leading this cause.
Eleven years ago, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO made the Walk to Cure Cancer the signature charity event of organized labor in the Commonwealth, pledging to raise $5 million towards the Massachusetts. To date the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and union affiliates have surpassed that goal raising over $5 million for cancer research through participating in the Walk to Cure Cancer.
