Dear Editor,
Question 1, the proposal to eliminate the state income tax, is an extremely reckless idea that promises to devastate our communities if passed on Tuesday, November 4th. I am voting NO on Question 1 and urge other members of [linsert your town] to do so as well. The consequences of eliminating the entire state income tax are just too painful. The state budget would lose over $12 Billion, that’s nearly 40% of its revenues. Such a cut will result in a drastic lost in aid for our cities and towns, impacting our schools, public safety, and infrastructure. On average, our cities and towns will lose 60-65% of its aid from the state.
The proponents of eliminating the income tax hope to win by enticing voters with the figure they would roughly ‘save’ by not paying an income tax; but this proposal will really do is cost us more in the long run by forcing a rise in property taxes, and the services we rely on would still be cut.
Our state and national economy is struggling enough, let’s not make things even worse by passing the initiative to remove the income tax.
Sincerely,
Name
Union Local
