In Support of Divestment from Iran
WHEREAS, the Iranian regime has a history of oppressing its own people and promoting chaos and violence within the region; and
WHEREAS, Iran has intensified its efforts to achieve nuclear capability and is dangerously close to developing a nuclear weapon; and
WHEREAS, international economic pressure has proved an effective way to slow Iran's progress toward nuclear proliferation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO condemns the Iranian regime and supports legislation that would end the investment of Massachusetts state retirement funds in foreign oil and gas companies operating within Iran; and be it finally
RESOLVED, that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution and other information to all relevant parties to demonstrate its ardent support for divestment from Iran.
