In Support of a Gaming Facility at Suffolk Downs
WHEREAS, Suffolk Downs is seeking economic development projects so that it can become a premiere destination for gaming and entertainment; and WHEREAS, Suffolk Downs is proposing to build a casino/resort/entertainment center at its current location; and WHEREAS, Suffolk Downs already provides good union jobs with affiliated local unions; and WHEREAS, all union workers in Massachusetts should support such a progressive proposal that will have a positive impact for workers and for economic development; therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO support the efforts to bring a premier gaming and entertainment location to Suffolk Downs by going on record in support of the proposal; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO continue to assist the appropriate Building Trades and Construction Councils to secure a commitment to build the project with union trades affiliated with the state AFL-CIO that will ensure a 100% union built project, using to the maximum extent practicable local craftworkers; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO continue to support affiliated local unions in securing the permanent union jobs that will result from this economic development project; and be it further RESOLVED, that the passage of this resolution authorizes the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO to write letters of support to the Commonwealth's Federal Congressional delegation, Governor, Lt. Governor, and other constitutional officers, permitting authorities, and any other elected officials that he deems necessary and prudent; and be it finally RESOLVED, that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this Resolution to all relevant sources in order to demonstrate its ardent support of the economic development benefits of the gaming and entertainment facility proposal at Suffolk Downs.
