In Support of Taking Back Labor Day

WHEREAS, anti-labor advocates have used Labor Day as an opportunity to attack the Labor Movement through the media; and

WHEREAS, Labor Day should be an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of the Labor Movement, emphasize the true meaning of the holiday, and most importantly, truly honor workers' both past and present; and

WHEREAS, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO carried out it's first-ever "Take Back Labor Day" campaign in 2007 to reassert Labor Day as a holiday that honors workers and educates the public; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Massachusetts AFL-CIO commits to a Take Back Labor Day campaign in 2008, using and improving upon the successful programs of the 2007 campaign, such as the radio advertisements around the holiday and the Massachusetts AFL-CIO President throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park on Labor Day; and be it finally

RESOLVED, that the President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will transmit a copy of this resolution and other information to all relevant parties to demonstrate its ardent support for restoring and reclaiming the true meaning of Labor Day.
