SWINE FLU CONFIRMATIONS CONTINUED AT ACCELERATED CLIP
State public health officials on Wednesday confirmed 63 more cases of swine flu and continued to urge Massachusetts residents to take precautions while noting that the illnesses so far have been "relatively mild."  Of the 413 cases confirmed to date, 220 have been confirmed in the last four business days, including 91 last Thursday and Friday and 129 Tuesday and Wednesday.  The first swine flu case in Massachusetts was confirmed on April 29.  The bulk of confirmed cases have occurred in Middlesex County (177) and Suffolk County (126).  There have been 131 confirmed cases among those between 11 and 15 years old, 83 among those between 6 and 10, and 53 among those between 16 and 20 years old.  None of the newly confirmed cases involved individuals who were hospitalized.  Health officials continue to warn that some severe cases may occur in people with underlying risk factors, especially young children, the elderly and people with chronic medical conditions.   There is no vaccine for H1N1 influenza.   State officials advise residents to wash their hands frequently and to cover their coughs.  Adults who are sick are advised to say home from work and parents should keep sick children home from school for seven days, or 24 hours after symptoms go away, whichever is longer.
