Union Members Protest Senator McCain's Visit Before a Labor to Labor Walk for Senator Obama in New Hampshire
Union Members Protest Senator McCain's New Hampshire Visit Before a Labor to Labor Walk for Senator Obama in New Hampshire On Tuesday July 22nd, the AFL-CIO's Rapid Action Program continued in full strength, when Massachusetts and New Hampshire union members turned out to protest Senator McCain's anti-worker agenda at his campaign stop in Rochester, New Hampshire. The Labor 2008 field program also made great strides this past Tuesday, when dozens of union members participated in a Labor to Labor Walk in support of Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama. The entire day was a huge success for union members working to educate other members about the litany of reasons that Senator Obama, not Senator McCain, will be the best President for working families. Nearly a hundred union members and Barack Obama supporters were holding signs outside the Rochester Opera House where Senator John McCain spoke to his New Hampshire voters. The huge crowd of union members outside the town meeting angered some of the McCain supporters so much that one New Hampshire Republican was arrested for tackling a protestor. It was an important morning for all union members involved, and the union presence outside the town meeting showed Senator McCain and his supporters the power of the solidarity in the Labor Movement. The "Labor to Labor Walk" began after the Rapid Action event and was an effective and necessary day. Union members went door to door in support of AFL-CIO endorsed candidate for President, Senator Barack Obama. Members from New Hampshire and Massachusetts worked together to inform fellow union members know why Senator Obama is the right candidate for working families. The walk launched from IBEW Local 104, in Barrington, and members spread out around New Hampshire to share information and educate union members on the important issues in the upcoming election. Overall, the day was full of accomplishment for the Labor Movement, with New Hampshire and Massachusetts union members working together in an important battleground state. The New Hampshire and Massachusetts AFL-CIO will continue working during the duration of this election year to ensure that union members in New Hampshire know about the importance of the fall election and have all the information they need to make the right choice for working families.
