Who:  Emerson Staff Union and community allies
What: Informational leafleting and membership "speak-out" calling on Emerson administrators to negotiate a reasonable first contract with the Emerson Staff Union
Where: Emerson's annual holiday party, Intercontinental Hotel, 510 Atlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02210
When: December 12, 5:00 - 6:15 pm Why:  The Emerson Staff Union has been negotiating with management for over a year to bring equitable wages and benefits to staff members. In July 2017, staff union leaders submitted a full economic proposal. The administration waited three months to provide a counterproposal that the negotiating committee found to be inadequate, incomplete, and insulting. Emerson staff have been waiting 10 years for management to live up to its promise of competitive wages consistent with peer institutes in the city while new hires continue to be recruited at higher rates.

"We are holding an action at our Holiday Party because we want to have a meaningful conversation with our co-workers and Emerson's leadership. We want them to hear us," said Illona Yuhav, an Instructional Technologist, from Somerville who is a member of the union negotiating team.

The Emerson Staff Union contract negotiations committee has submitted almost two dozen proposals that management has yet to respond to.

The Emerson Staff Union, affiliated with SEIU Local 888, is calling on the Emerson community to stand with the Emerson Staff Union and urge the administration to stop dragging its feet and bargain a fair contract. Emerson should agree to a contract that provides the good jobs that Emerson staff and our community needs.
