On Tuesday, April 3, voters will decide on a provisional proposition override to provide additional funding for vital public services in North Attleboro, including our neighborhood public schools and public libraries. The North Attleboro Federation of Teachers believes now is the time for us to unite and invest in our children and our community by voting for the 2.5-percent override. Without this funding, our kids and community are facing:
• Closure of Roosevelt Elementary School, creating the town wide redistricting and shuffling of hundreds of elementary students;
• A potential restructuring of the middle school to a junior high model, which requires fewer staff and provides fewer course offerings at the high school level;
• Massive cuts to school employees—teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, clerical employees and food service workers;
• Decertification of our local public library; and
• Loss of funding to maintain valuable public services.
