After a one-week strike earlier this month, Lawrence-based human services agency CLASS, Inc. is still refusing to pay its workers fair wages that will adress the high turnover that is threatening the quality of care at the agency! SEIU Local 509 members at CLASS, Inc. have voted overwhelmingly to authorize an open-ended strike beginning on Monday, July 30, and workers are calling on the agency to sit down with workers and negotiate a fair contract. Please join workers on the picket line for a rally on Monday, July 30 at 12:00 p.m. at 1 Parker Street in Lawrence!

“CLASS, Inc. is facing a crisis because the low wages offered by management leave us with barely enough to keep up with our bills, creating high staff turnover that impacts the people we care for. We believe CLASS, Inc. can — and must — do better,” said Tom Baca of Lawrence, who has worked at CLASS, Inc. for six years, currently as a driver. “If management keeps refusing to do the right thing, we’re prepared to go on strike and not stop until we win higher wages for ourselves and better care for the people we serve.”
