Local Community to Remember & Honor Massachusetts Workers Killed on the Job 

Springfield, MA --- On Friday, April 27, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:30pm area local workers, local unions, community members and their leaders will mark the national observance of Workers Memorial Day.  The event will be held at the intersection of Page Blvd. and Osborne Terrace next to the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO headquarters, 640 Page Blvd, Springfield MA.  The memorial ceremony will be held in honor of the working men and women of Massachusetts who have died from job-related injury or illness. This year’s event is organized by the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO and co-sponsored by Western New England Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health.

Workers Memorial Day Proceedings:

  • Welcome: Charlie Holmes, President, Western NE COSH
  • Invocation & Lighting of Memorial Candle: Reverend Jon Tetherly
  • Proclamation: Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno
  • Speaker: State Representative, Jose Tosado
  • Acknowledgements: family members of workers who passed away in 2017
  • Ceremony: Solemn reading of the names of workers who died in 2017
  • Closing: Fiore Grassetti, President Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO

Participants will join workers all over the nation who gather to “mourn for the dead, and fight for the living,” and will call for safer workplaces through stronger worker protections.
